Mental health support for refugees
PAMI – Mental health support for refugees in reception centres 2023-2025 is a development project. It is funded by the Immigration, Asylum and Integration Fund AMIF, under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior. It is run by the Deaconess Foundation.
- The project provides mental health support services, crisis support, groups and service counselling to children, young people and families in the refugee reception system.
- The work is carried out at the outpatient clinic of the Centre for Psychotraumatology in Helsinki, in reception centres and in organisations working with Ukrainian refugees, as well as through digital media.
- The multidisciplinary team provides acute crisis care and assesses the need for other types of mental health services and makes health care referrals when necessary.
- The service is free of charge for clients.
- Project staff train and advise professionals working with asylum seekers and persons in need of temporary protection.
- The work is done using interpretation.
